Organic learning and intuition
There's some great stuff in the following two articles: Organic learning and Trust your instincts:the virtues of spontaneity and personalisation. The authors stress that we should plan less and let the lesson generate itself from the conversation that arises. Right on! I utilize this approach with my BE 1to1s and it works amazingly well.

Have you checked out the Yahoo Group "Dogme"? Founded by Scott Thornbury, it explores material-lite/free classes and emergent syllabi.

Very nice... love the article in the Guardian. Also love the idea of letting "lessons" spontaneously arise from conversations.
A supplement to this would be the use of exclusively authentic materials. For example, instead of plodding through a textbook... have everyone bring a copy of the day's newspaper to class. If conversation slows... its easy to glance at a headline and say, "so what do you think of_________"

Cleve: Thanks for mentioning the Dogme Yahoo Group. Have been there for a few days already. It's always packed with thought-provoking ideas and I find it well worth the read.
AJ: Good idea, will certainly give it a try someday.
